Facing Collapse Together Study Group

Register here for this five session study group. Classes will be recorded. It’s okay to drop into any of them without joining for all. Scroll down for the syllabus of readings (parts of which are still being finalized).

Class Description

This workshop is for Jews and allies who want to work with others to face the overwhelm about the mounting evidence of societal and lifeweb collapse. This online study group, with 5 themed sessions, will provide a space to look at Breaking Together by Jem Bendell, a provocative and imperfect text that argues that the collapse of industrial consumer society is already underway. Our inquiry will be rooted in diasporic Judaism, anti-Zionism, anti-colonialism, anti-racist action, disability justice, and feminism. Our study of Breaking Together will be supported by additional texts. We plan to include work from Klee Benally, Kelly Hayes, Mariame Kaba, Peter Gelderloos and others. These sessions are designed as spaces to confront our denial, integrate what’s happening, and move toward action.

You can access Breaking Together for free as an epub or audiobook, or you can purchase a physical copy by going to abebooks or ebay.

Our class will be hosted by Rabbi Jessica Rosenberg (writer, educator, organizer), Derekh Travers (facilitator, nourisher, post-prepper), and Dean Spade (author, organizer, and filmmaker). We will meet over Zoom from 6:30 to 8:00pm Central Time on April 21st, May 12th, June 2nd, June 23rd, and July 14th.
